Dwarf

The Dwarves of Middle Earth were created by Aulë, an Ainur. Aulë only had a vague idea of what the Children of Ilúvatar should look like. This resulted in the Dwarves being made much shorter, only about 4 and a half to 5 feet, and more corpulent than the Children of Ilúvatar. Because of the threat of Morgoth, Aulë made the dwarves very strong and fibrous.
