TitlePrince of Mirkwood
AgeUnknown; though to be at least 1000

Legolas Greenleaf, son of Thranduil, an elf who lived among the trees of Mirkwood; prince of his realm. He attended the Council of Elrond to warn of Gollums escape, but was chosen to represent the Elves within the Fellowship.

His journey with the Fellowship

During his travels, which took him all the way to Minas Tirith, Legolas showed superb prowess in combat, and proved to be a great friend to Gimli the Dwarf, and Aragorn. To name a few of his feats, Legolas slew many wargs when the company was attacked outisde the gate of Moria. And when they entered the mines he again made good use of his bow, felling Orcs and a cave troll. When the company split Legolas went with Aragorn, and Gimli, tracking the Hobbits across Rohan. His eyes proved an excellent aid, as he could see the Orcs from a great distance, and where they were headed. Although Legolas' age is unknown, he does mention that he 'almost' feels young among the trees of Fangorn, hinting that he's at least a thousand years old. During The Battle of Helms deep Legolas counted his score of Orcs against his companion, Gimli's. Though the Elf was far ahead of his friend early in the battle, he eventually ran dry of arrows, so lost the competition 42 – 41. From there on Legolas followed Aragorn through even more perils, despite feeling the yearning to pass into the West as most Elves had. He followed the Ranger through the paths of the dead, to the battle of Minas Tirith, where again he slew many Orcs, and finally to The Black Gate.

After The War of the Ring

After the war was over Legolas settled in the lands of Ithilien, along with his people. Here he stayed for a time, but when Aragorn died the Elf once again felt the West calling. He built a ship, and it is said that he and his great friend Gimli sailed down the Anduin, and away to the West.

The film trilogy

In the films Legolas was played by Orlando Bloom, a young actor at the time. He was depicted as having blonde hair, with a slim and lithe figure. Instead of carrying a single blade Legolas used two knives in the films, and pulled of some inhuman feats, such as climbing a Mumakil and despatching it's entire crew, before ending the beast and finally cascading down it's trunk. A notable act that Legolas didn't commit in the films was that he killed Grima Wormtongue in the extended cut, something that didn't occur in the books.

Legolas has appeared in numerous game titles. He is in the action game The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers (PS2) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King, in which he bears his trademark knives and bow. In both titles he has greatly enhanced bow skills over other characters. He also appears as a hero unit in The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II and The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth, again bearing his signature blades from the films and his bow as a primary weapon.
