The Silmarillion is the prehistory of Middle Earth and the events prior to those in Tolkien's other popular works, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It starts out with the creation of Middle Earth and the creation of the races of Elves, Dwarves, Men, and Orcs. It gives account of the heroic and epic quests and wars of the Elder Days. Many of the small, casual, yet puzzling facts mentioned in Tolkien's other works are in reference to these events, which span over ages and thousands of years of Middle Earth's amazing history.

This book is a collection of many ancient tales, and there is not a main character in particular, as the spotlight of this book shifts with each story. The characters are in the following links, sorted by race and in order of appearance.

Chapters and Tales

The Silmarillion, as aforementioned, is a compilation of many legends and stories of Middle Earth. They show the distinct events of each races, as well as when the fates of them were intertwined.
